The Pakistan Air Force, or PAF, is the Pakistan Armed
Forces’ Air Warfare Branch, which is primarily responsible for air defence,
providing air support to the Pakistan Army and Navy when needed, and offering
strategic airlift capacity. PAF now has 70,000 active duty members and operates
at least 594 aircraft in Pakistan, according to the International Institute for
Strategic Studies. Its primary responsibility and objective is to deliver
“Pakistan’s most secure and cost-effective air defence – services.”
PAF has been involved in a variety of combat missions since its creation in
1947, including providing air support to Pakistani military operations and
relief efforts.
